When Are Seedlings Available?

We begin the germination process near the middle of February to ensure seedlings are available by March every year. This gives growers of all types the chance to purchase a seedling during the times they want to begin their plants.

Why Don’t We Provide Autoflower Seedlings?

This is due to a couple of different reasons:

  • To prevent transplant shock
  • Their quicker flowering time

How Many Can Customers Buy?

There is no cap on how many plants can be purchased at one time, but keep in mind your local laws on how many plants can be grown on your property!

  • Michigan residents are allowed to cultivated up to 12 recreational cannabis plants PER HOUSEHOLD.

Terpene Profile:

When it comes to a flavor profile, the real science comes down to the terpenes. What is a terpene? In simple terms, a natural compound found in many plants that act as a protector and as communication to the environment around them. Not all terpenes have the exact blend of aromas and flavors as each other, making every plant unique in its own way. When looking for a fruity vibe, we recommend sticking to these terpenes:

Limonene

  • Known for influencing a positive mood and its anti-inflammatory properties
  • Can also be found in: Lemons, Oranges, and Peppermint

Terpinolene

  • Known for relaxation and easing of muscles
  • Can also be found in: Apples, Lilac, and Limes

CowPots: What To Know Before You Grow

CowPots: What To Know Before You Grow

Introducing CowPots, a natural alternative to gardening pots. Skip the worries of root bound plants or transplant shock with the added bonus of healthier soil when you use these cow manure based pots. Perfect for starting herbs, vegetables, and cannabis plants. Find the size that works best for you and your garden below.

CowPots: What To Know Before You Grow Cannabis Plants

  • CowPot nutrients are minimal in size with a Nitrogen-Potassium-Phosphorus rating of 1-0-0. This small but mighty nitrogen contribution helps kickstart the composting process of the container, leaving behind healthy nutrients for the surrounding soil.
  • Promotes healthier roots and healthier plants with a breathable pot made with cow manure and zero plastics.
    • Along with being breathable, this pot is built with great drainage properties as well. With adequate drainage and aeration, roots can avoid various diseases and pests.
  • Avoid transplant shock when moving a cannabis plant into another home by just placing the CowPot whole into the soil. No removal needed!

Durability:

Each CowPot varies in thickness, and this can contribute to the durability of the pot’s walls before decomposition. Here at the Seed Cellar, we carry the following sizes:

  • COWPOTS #3 SQUARE SINGLE POT – $0.45ea
    • Can accommodate up to a 3-month shelf life in a greenhouse setting
    • Recommended for herbs, veggies, and small cannabis seedlings. A great size to step up into large planting containers or directly into the ground post frost.
  • COWPOTS #3 SIX-CELL FLAT 3PK – $5.95ea
    • Can accommodate up to a 2-month shelf life in a greenhouse setting
    • Works well for quick germinating plants and spring flowering annuals.
  • COWPOTS #3 ROUND 12PK – $6.95ea
    • Can accommodate up to a 3-month shelf life in a greenhouse setting
    • The rounded style allows for better airflow and ventilation. A great size to step up into large planting containers or directly into the ground post frost.
  • CowPotsCOWPOTS 10 ROW TRAY – $5.95ea
    • Can accommodate up to a 2-month shelf life in a greenhouse setting
    • Designed for germination assistance and allows you to prepare your seedlings for transplant.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Handle CowPots when dry to avoid tearing the pot.
  • Don’t overwater! A dry CowPot is a thirsty CowPot.
  • To meet the recommended growing time for long-season crops, think about starting your seeds in a germination tray before transferring them to a CowPot.

Decomposition Timeframe:

These pots were partially created to eliminate root-bound plants and transplant shock. Once planted, the CowPot will begin to decompose as the roots grow through it and into the surrounding soil. Depending on the moisture and bioactivity, it takes about a season for these pots to completely decompose.

Mold & Fungi?

While using your CowPot, you may notice some non-harmful mold and fungus growing along the walls. As the pots dry up, this will disappear.

Since these pots are made from cow manure, they tend to behave like the pasture at some point. This is a bonus to your garden, as it adds positive nutrients and rejuvenation to your soil.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Don’t overwater! A dry CowPot is a thirsty CowPot. Allowing the pot to dry completely in between waterings can prevent moisture-loving mold and fungi from growing.
  • Give them some space. A little extra space can encourage additional airflow to the roots, allowing better plant growth. Ventilation also allows for drying the pots completely between watering.
  • If your plant is outgrowing its CowPot and its forever home isn’t ready yet, step up CowPot sizes. These pots are meant to decompose into soil after 6 – 12 weeks of seedling growth and will eventually need to be transplanted.

Why Should You Grow Your Own Cannabis?

Why Should You Grow Your Own Cannabis?

Despite how cool it is being the one in your circle growing cannabis from seed, it’s also more transparent. There’s no more wondering if there will be recalls in the future, or even if what you’re consuming is truly what is being advertised. Continue reading to learn why we believe growing your own cannabis is more beneficial for the mind, body, and wallet!

Quality VS. Quantity

As cannabis continues to grow in popularity across the United States, the demand rises along with it. In 2025, as many as forty states have legalized the consumption of medical marijuana and twenty-five states have legalized to include recreational use. And as always, an increase of demand includes an increase of production. Increased production is great for the businesses involved but reduces customer quality slowly over the years. Recalls have become pretty common in the cannabis industry ranging from contamination to incorrect labeling.

Top Recalls in the Cannabis Industry

  • Pesticides and Chemical Residues
  • Mold/Yeast Contamination
  • Unsafe or Banned Additives
    • A common additive used in cartridges is Vitamin E acetate, leading to respiratory issues when used.
  • Incorrect Potency Labels
  • Child Safety Protocols
    • Typically involving the packages design in compared to the child friendly versions, as they can occasionally be very similar.

Cannabis Remediation: What Is It?

Before commercially grown cannabis reaches its final destination, it goes through a safety test to check for potential contaminants. If a batch fails their test, a process called Remediation comescannabis leaf into play. What is it, though?

Remediation is a process that growers will use to clean contaminated cannabis to bring it to a sellable quality. The type of contamination usually decides the method of removal.

  • Solvent Extraction
    • Most popular method for cannabis with heavy traces of pesticides or heavy metals. This process transforms the flower into an oil or concentrates.
  • Heat Treatment
    • The cheapest and easiest method for cannabis with heavy traces of microbes. Essentially using heat to sterilize the contaminants off the flower. This method does reduce terpenes leading to a lack of smell and flavor.

It Can Save Money

On average, feminized cannabis seeds cost around the $10.00 per seed price point. While each plant carries its own growth potential, it’s hard to beat a starting cost so low in comparison to the yearly total spent at your local cannabis shop. It’s important to know how you want to begin your cultivation journey, whether its outside or inside.

Inside Cultivation

Inside growers typically have more to start out purchasing such as pots, soil, nutrients, and basic equipment for plant health. It’s best to find materials that can be reused multiple times to save on cost.

Basic Starting Materials:

  • Grow Light
  • Tent or Designated Room
    • Just anywhere that can be protected from light leaks as some plants are sensitive.
  • Oscillating Fan
  • Reusable Pots
  • Temperature/Humidity Monitor
  • Soil
  • Nutrients
  • Platforms
    • This helps raise/lower plants to the light based on their age and height. A lot of people will typically use household items such as thick books or small tables.

Outside Cultivation

While most of the time there is minimal starting cost for cultivating cannabis, there are other concerns to manage. Outdoor weather becomes both your friend and your nemesis depending on the year. These plants will require daily observation to check for pests that can invade your garden and other plant changes such as stress. Another thing to be aware of is how far pollen can travel with the wind. Pollen is known to travel up to hundreds of miles depending on the plant it comes from, so be aware if you suddenly get males this could be an environmental change based on distant neighbors and what they could be growing in their yard.

Other Plant Growing Factors:

  • Overwatering due to excess rain
  • Stress from intense heat
  • Frost warnings

Dispensary Pricing

Depending on the state, dispensary pricing can look a little differently. Cultivating your own cannabis can eliminate the unnecessary spending for a product that you can grow at home and receive more for a fraction of the price; A similar comparison is eating out versus eating at home. An added bonus is homegrown, organic cannabis is typically much more enjoyable.

*Recreational cannabis purchases are taxed differently in each state; Check out more in-depth information here.

Personal Cannabis Preference

Certain strains can make a bad day better for a good chunk of the population utilizing cannabis in their lives. Being able to have the option to pick and choose without limitation is incredibly freeing. Not to mention there is a whole world of cannabis outside of the dispensary walls!
