The Best Cannabis Seeds to Grow Your Own in Minnesota

10/05/2023

Minnesota, known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, has become the 23rd state to legalize adult-use, recreational cannabis, effective August 1, 2023. Adults can now grow and consume cannabis in Minnesota while the state establishes a legal framework for the industry in the near future. Many residents are now looking for cannabis seeds in Minnesota so they can grow their own quality plants while waiting for local dispensaries to open up.

Can I Grow Pot in Minnesota?

Adults in Minnesota can now grow up to eight Cannabis plants as long as only four of those plants are flowering at one time. All plants must be grown in a locked, enclosed space that is not visible to public view, whether it’s an outdoor garden or indoor grow space. Most residents in Minnesota are excited about the new law and eager to start growing their own pot plants.

It is important to remember that only high-quality seeds will produce high-quality plants. As you get more comfortable growing your own Cannabis plants and learning tricks of the trade like the exact and proper nutrients to use at certain stages of growth, proper lighting and how to adjust lighting when needed, and how to harvest and cure your weed, you’ll learn how to improve your plant health. One thing is for certain though, quality seeds can produce quality plants, even in subpar growing conditions, while subpar seeds will never produce great plants.

Minnesota’s New Recreational Weed Law

The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management offers more information for residents to learn about the most recent adult use law passed in August 2023, as well as information for people wanting to start a cannabis business and the type of licenses available. You can also learn more about the expungement of criminal records related to Cannabis and cannabis laws related to Minnesota’s tribal nations, which are some of the strongest in the country to recognize and honor tribal sovereignty.

In fact, while the state is working on establishing the rules and regulations for dispensaries, at least two tribal nations have opened in northwestern Minnesota and have already begun dispensing recreational weed with their tribal sovereignty, allowing cannabis sales. White Earth Nation and Red Lake Nation began selling cannabis in the first half of August, shortly after the new Minnesota law. Tribal members, as well as nontribal adults who are at least 21 years of age and older, can purchase cannabis from the tribal nations’ dispensaries.

Possession of Weed in Minnesota

Minnesotans can now legally possess and travel within the state with up to 2 ounces of Cannabis flower, 8 g of concentrate, or a total of 800 mg of THC edibles and may also possess up to 2 pounds of Cannabis flower at their homes. It is still illegal to take cannabis across state lines, and federal law prohibits anyone from consuming cannabis while owning firearms or ammunition.

Minnesota’s surrounding states, which include Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Iowa, have not yet legalized recreational weed. So whether you’re coming to Minnesota to enjoy the natural beauty of the more than 11,000 lakes scattered across the state or you come to shop at the Mall of America, one of the largest shopping malls in the world, be careful crossing state lines but rather just plan to enjoy your smoke while in the state.
